Mädler Passage (Grimmaische Straße / Neumarkt)

Enige feiten

Leipzig's most impressive arcade is the best place to experience the architectural and historical grandeur of the trade fair and trading city.

The five-storey Passagen-Messehaus was built from 1912 to 1914 according to plans by architect Theodor Kösser. The building was commissioned by the leather manufacturer Anton Mädler. However, the historic Auerbachs Hof had to make way for it. However, the Auerbachs Keller inn, which became famous as one of the locations in Goethe's drama "Faust", was preserved.

Porcelain, ceramics and earthenware were originally traded in the Mädler Passage. Today, the 140-metre-long, elegant shopping street is a real tourist magnet. In addition to exclusive stores, the Sanftwut cabaret can also be found here. Together with the Königshauspassage and the Messehofpassage, the shopping street forms a unique shopping arcade system.
