The remains of the city wall are remarkable witnesses of Görlitz's history. Even today you can trace the course of the defensive ring in the Görlitz cityscape.

Most medieval towns were designed so that the city wall could be walked around in one hour. Large parts of the Görlitz city wall have been preserved to this day. Walk along the former city wall and discover one of the oldest parts of the city.
On the tour you see the Nikolaiturm - the oldest fortification of the city, the Ochsenbastei - a smaller park area inside the city wall, or the Reichenbacher Turm, the highest tower of Görlitz. The Nikolaizwinger and the Ochsenbastei have been turned into beautiful green areas and are accessible to you from April to October.
Another component of the old city defenses is the Kaisertrutz - which today belongs to the Cultural History Museum. The Dicke Turm - was also called Frauen- or Steinturm. In the summer half of the year, you can always climb the tower on Thursdays with a guided tour.

Outside of the route is still an important part of the city wall - the Finstertor, the only preserved city gate of the Nikolaivorstadt.
