Between Dresden and Berlin, a spectacular water world with more than 20 new lakes is emerging. The Seenland-Route leads once through the young Lusatian Lake District. Cyclists experience up close on the 186-kilometer-long quality cycling route how the largest man-made water landscape in Europe is growing. Here, where lignite mining once shaped the landscape, a new water paradise is emerging through the flooding of former open-cast mines. In a few years, ten lakes will be connected by navigable canals.

The Seenland-Route runs from Großräschener See in the north to Bärwalder See in the south of the Lusatian Lake District, passing by a total of 16 lakes. Along new shores, exciting views of the emerging lakes repeatedly open up. Along the way, you will learn about the different stages of flooding. You will experience the transformation of the landscape from growing lakes with rugged shores to fully flooded lakes. In some places, the transitory stage between open-cast mine and lake can still be directly experienced. Other lakes were flooded decades ago and impress with bathing beaches, marinas, and amphitheaters. Although not all lakes have yet reached their final water level, many offer sandy beaches and water sports from jet skiing to sailing.

Steel giants like the "Rusty Nail" also invite you to climb them. Such landmarks and distinctive viewpoints along the way give cyclists great views of the impressive transformation of nature. Whether industrial culture, garden cities, landscape art, or Sorbian customs – the Seenland-Route also offers outstanding attractions off the lakes.

With numerous cyclist-friendly Bett & Bike hosts along the route, cycle tourists can feel completely well looked after. The signposted route mainly runs on paved paths and has few inclines.
