Historic center of Seußlitz

The tour of the historic town center begins at Seußlitz Castle. If you pass the castle on the left, you will enter through a Gothic archway from monastic times and arrive at the castle church. The church can be visited as an "Open Church" from April to October daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., occasionally concerts are held. Directly behind the George-Bähr Church is the Historical Cemetery. The church and the cemetery were already used as burial grounds in monastic times. Among other things, impressive stone coffins of Count Heinrich von Bünau and his daughter-in-law are preserved in this area.

Through a narrow passage you come to the Haus des Gastes, which is located in the former press house. On the first floor, the Haus des Gastes houses the tourist information and the registry office. The first and second floors house the Nature Conservation Center with exhibition areas as well as other rooms for rentals and special exhibition areas. Opposite the Haus des Gastes is the wine café "Anno 1272" (year of the first nuns moving into the monastery of Seußlitz), which spoils you in the season with coffee, Dresdner Eierschecke, Flammkuchen and of course delicious wine from the region.

Behind the Haus des Gastes you can already see the castle vineyard standing out. Today this vineyard belongs to the winery Schloss Proschwitz - Prinz zur Lippe in Zadel. High up on the castle vineyard stands the Luisenburg. The former vineyard house "Luise" is now privately owned.

If you walk straight ahead from the Haus des Gastes you will reach the "Alte Schule". This former school building dates back to 1676 and has been rebuilt, added to and extended several times since then. Since 1896 the house is no longer used as a school and is now privately owned. From the school you go a short distance straight into the Seußlitzer Grund. There you will reach the old forester's lodge. The forester's lodge used to be the exit of the castle park, served first as an excerpt villa, later as a forester's lodge and finally as a kindergarten.

From the forester's lodge, you continue through the castle park with the orangery to Heinrichsburg Castle, which, along with Luisenburg Castle, is the second former vineyard house in the castle ensemble. Today, the so-called "Lusthaus" houses various exhibitions from April to October. If you walk from the Heinrichsburg back towards the castle ensemble, you will find the Rittergut below the castle. These are the two buildings to the left and right of the castle driveway. Today, these buildings are managed by various tenants.
