Charming half-timbered houses line the route and great excursion destinations invite you to make a detour and linger.

The starting point for the 35-kilometer circular route is Jonsdorf in the Zittau Mountains. One of the highlights is the "Textile Village" Großschönau. The town is known for damask and terry weaving as well as the holiday park TRIXI-Park. About 660 well-preserved half-timbered houses can be admired in this municipality alone. The route continues towards Waltersdorf. From here, the Lausche (793 meters) can be best "hiked"! Lovingly renovated half-timbered houses can also be found in the spa town of Jonsdorf. Butterfly house, Nuns' rock, spa park, or ice sports arena are just some of the recommended highlights. The Zittau narrow-gauge railway also "steams" through the town.

After an ascent and descent, the flower village Bertsdorf-Hörnitz with its castle and park "Althörnitz" and the popular excursion destination "Koitsche" is reached. Through the deeply incised Roscher valley near Mittelherwigsdorf, the tour continues to Hainewalde. The Renaissance castle lies dreamily in the town and is awaiting to shine in new splendor. Our tip: a detour to the Kanitz-Kyaw crypt. From there, it goes leisurely back to Großschönau on the Rübezahl cycle path.

From September 8th to and including September 22nd, 2025, a large part of the forest areas in the Zittau Mountains due to soil protection liming by Sachsenforst will be closed from the air. This affects some parts of the route. A direct passage is not possible during this time!

Unfortunately, no detour could be arranged for this period. Therefore, if possible, we recommend doing the route either before September 8th or after September 22nd, 2025.
