At the Upper Station Grimma, start the bike route eastwards, cross Bahnhofstraße and ride down Karl-Marx-Straße. At the end of the street, turn left and immediately right into Leipziger Straße. Go straight across Leipziger Platz until you turn left into Frauenstraße. Follow the street to the end of Brückenstraße. Then turn right and before the Pöppelmann stone bridge, turn left onto the Mulde bike path. After the Grundmühle, turn left. There is an uphill stretch to Schillerstraße, where you may need to push the bike. At the top, you will see on the right the first stop of the route, the Göschen house with its classicist private garden. The garden is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm, entrance is free.
After the tour including the Friendship Temple, continue via Fünfhäuserweg, at the fork turn left, through the nursery and then through Seume park and its pond chains. After descending, turn left onto the Mulde bike path and cross the Mulde river in Bahren. Here, exceptionally choose Nerchauer Landstraße instead of the Mulde bike path to reach the Lustgarten at the former Döben castle grounds via Kastanienallee.
After the impressive view of the Mulde landscape from the Lustgarten, cycle left from Kastanienallee into Döben forest. From Galgenberg hilltop, enjoy a beautiful view of Hohnstädt and recognize the Göschen house again.
Once down again, cross Leisniger Straße, cycle past the Pöppelmann stone bridge into the city forest towards Kössern, and admire the city of Grimma with its historic grand buildings and half-timbered houses. At Rabenstein, enjoy another view of the Mulde landscape. Follow the Path of Stones to Höfgen, the village of the senses. Past the Schiffmühle museum and the ferry house, you can briefly glance over the fence at the herb garden at the Höfgen water mill. Turn right into Höfgener Straße. On the left side, you will see Art Garden No. 2, which offers sculptures and a shaded rest area.
Continue along the bike path through the idyllic Mulde landscape, and in Förstgen turn right to Kössern, the village of master builders. The Kössern hunting lodge with its historic orchard of over 30 apple varieties is on the left. After a sharp left curve, ride along the castle wall and enter the garden from the back through the gate, push your bike along the meadow path through the idyllic orchard, and admire the garden facade of the hunting lodge. Inside is a tourist information center.
Then continue south and turn right to the Kössern manor with the baroque private garden. A courtyard café welcomes you on weekends with outdoor seating in the manor courtyard, serving coffee, cold drinks, delicious cakes and inviting you to play boules.
After visiting the charming private garden and relaxing on one of the many terraces with views of the Mulde, cycle down the "Park Hill" on the left. At the bottom, turn left over the Mulde bridge and then right at the next junction to Kleinbothen. Along Badstraße, turn right after the outdoor pool and follow the bike path. The artist house Schaddelmühle lies directly right along the path. There, park your bike and enter a nature-oriented garden with ceramic sculptures behind the "transformer house," which extends far into the Mulde landscape. Finally, cycle north past the historic Nimbschen monastery ruins in the namesake district and continue to Grimma. In Grimma, then turn right down Colditzer Weg, opposite the suspension bridge you can visit the small Alinenpark with castle ruin and grotto. Then turn left into Kellerhäuser. Cross Colditzer Straße and ride up Prophetenberg to Gabelsberger Straße. Turn right twice and you will arrive again on the left at the Upper Station.
