The cycling route M links Meißen and Moritzburg and offers the opportunity to combine the diverse sights of the historic towns with a picturesque ride through nature.

The route can be started in either Moritzburg or Meißen. Due to an ascent of about 100 meters in Weinböhla, the more relaxed option starting in Moritzburg is recommended. The return journey is possible between April and October by bus line M, depending on bus capacity.

In Moritzburg, the route starts directly at the castle car park, directly opposite the famous baroque castle. The bus stop for line M and the tourist information are 50 m away. You enjoy the view of the large pond while circling it on the west side. The Käthe Kollwitz House is also directly on the route and invites you to visit the former residence of the famous artist. After a few meters, the route turns into the large forest area, the Friedewald. On signposted cycle paths, the route leads through nature that already served the Saxon electors and kings for relaxation and hunting.

After about 10 km, on the left side, somewhat hidden behind some trees, is the König Albert lookout tower. This tower, built in 1898, is accessible on Sundays and holidays from April to October and offers a wonderful view of the surroundings. Outside opening hours, you can also get a key from the Tourist Information Weinböhla.

In the center of Weinböhla, near the church, is VELOCIUM, the Saxon bicycle experience world. A visit to the exhibition is a must for every cycling enthusiast and also well suited for families. It presents over 200 years of cycling tradition in Weinböhla and conveys modern knowledge. Children and teenagers can test their skills on a bike course.

Passing the Nassau sports hall and the DB train stop (public transport, bus line M), you leave Weinböhla and reach the village of Neusörnewitz, continuing to the floodplains of the Nassau landscape protection area. The natural route offers views over the Elbe region and then leads into the smallest low mountain range in Saxony, the Spaar Mountains. Their distinctive ridge is the Boselspitze, which can be climbed on foot. Here awaits a fantastic view towards Dresden. Below the Spaar Mountains is the village of Sörnewitz, which offers places to stop directly on the Elbe Cycle Path with some wineries.

The route then follows the Elbe Cycle Path in the direction of Meißen. More wineries and their terrace vineyards line the right side shortly before the distinctive towers of Meißen Cathedral become visible. The tour finally ends after crossing the Elbe in the historic old town of Meißen with its numerous sights such as the Albrechtsburg Meissen, the Meißen Cathedral, the MEISSEN Experience World as the first porcelain manufactory in Europe, the city museum and the Church of Our Lady.

Here in Meißen’s old town is also the stop for the bus line M at Roßmarkt. Depending on bus capacity, this bus line can be used for the return journey to Moritzburg.
