A scenic route through the cultural landscape of Großenhainer Pflege with views of former and existing mills.

This bike tour leads to various technical monuments and offers insights into regional agriculture. The Großenhainer Pflege, a region with centuries-old tradition in arable farming, offers one of the longest bike routes in the Dresden Heidebogen with the roughly 80 km circular route.

Wind and water mills once played a central role in agriculture and influenced the locations of the mills. This history can be approached with the varied, family-friendly bike route. It leads along quiet, paved roads as well as idyllic forest and field paths and fascinatingly links technology, culture and recreation. Part of the route even runs along the historic trade route "Via Regia," the famous medieval trade and pilgrimage route.

Along the route there are various mills that were or are used for sawing wood, grinding flour or generating electricity, some of which can be visited today as technical attractions.

The circular route passes, among others, the Hofgut Kaltenbach, the organic farm Niedermühle, the Kienmühle in Thiendorf, the Niedermühle Rödern, the post mill Ebersbach and the Stange Mill in Brößnitz. On hot days, the Brettmühlenteich in Zschorna near Thiendorf invites you for a refreshing swim and offers local gastronomy for a meal.

Lakes, ponds and extensive floodplains along the Große Röder offer opportunities for breaks and relaxation. Culture enthusiasts can enjoy events at the castles Schönfeld, Lauterbach and the Kulturschloss Großenhain.
