Our tour starts and ends at the Freital bus station on Hüttenstraße. The Freital-Deuben S-Bahn station is in the immediate vicinity, as is a P+R parking lot. The "Grüner Punkt" hiking trail to the Windberg starts here and is very well signposted. On the way to and across Leßkestraße, we cross the area where Freital's town center is to be built in the next few years. After crossing the Weißeritz, we head up the Windberg via the Jägersteig and later the Niederhäslicher Weg. After a total of around 2 kilometers, we see a sandstone wall. This was once part of a bridge for railroad tracks when coal was mined here in the 19th century.
If you would like to make a detour to the King Albert Monument, from where you have a wonderful view over the whole of Freital, you would have to follow the "Green Dot" from here. However, we turn right before the former bridge and follow the "Grüner Strich" or No. 5 markings. After crossing the busy coal road, we walk a few kilometers along an old railroad line. This former 13 km long section of the Windbergbahn (also known as the Saxon Semmeringbahn) between Freital and Possendorf was built in 1856 to transport coal from the Windberg region. The upper part of the line was closed in 1951 and now serves as a cycle and hiking trail. Kleinnaundorf station is the starting point for a national soapbox race every year. Nearby is the "Schatzalm" restaurant.
After a few meters, we continue along the "Grüner Strich" to the right into the Poisental valley, cross a large road and arrive at the Stone Table on the other side of the valley. This was built in 1862 for the King of Saxony as a hunting resting place. Still following the "Grüner Strich" and No. 5, there is a beautiful view of the Windberg on the right. On the left, we pass below the Wachtelberg. This is often used as a ski slope in winter when there is snow. In Niederhäslich, we leave the "Grüner Strich" and follow no. 5, first via Niederhäslicher Straße, then Am Stieglitzberg through the residential area on Raschelberg. Here you can stop for refreshments at the "Zum Gründ'l" restaurant. When we reach Poisentalstraße, we follow it to the left for approx. 500 meters until we reach the pedestrian crossing and turn right onto a cycle/footpath. Our circular route ends at Leßkestraße and we walk back to the bus station.
