Circular hike from Carlsfeld around the highest drinking water reservoir in Germany

From the Trinitatiskirche, the route initially leads over Buttergasse and Talsperrenstraße uphill until the turnoff to the dam of the highest drinking water reservoir in Germany (904 m) is reached in the forest. Here, a short detour (200 m) on the dam is already possible. Back on the wide forest path (Sachsenberger Weg), the hike leads in a wide arc southwards around the reservoir. The neighboring Vogtland to the west is sometimes less than 100 meters away. In a small hollow, the natural inflow, the Wilzsch, is crossed, and at the next crossroads the route continues left on the Flößweg. Here, in winter, the Erzgebirge-Vogtland ridge trail also runs. A small hill soon forms the highest point (943 m) of the hike. Then it immediately goes left down the Sauersacker Steig and after several ups and downs the dam is reached again, this time on the other side of the reservoir. After crossing the roughly 200 m long rubble stone dam, it goes back down to Carlsfeld.
