The Holy Sepulchre, Görlitz

Enige feiten

The entire complex, consisting of the Double Chapel of the Holy Cross, the Ointment House and the Sepulchral Chapel, is a replica of the most important parts of the large Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

The Holy Sepulchre is an impressive testimony to late medieval piety and landscape architecture of European standing. The architectural complex consists of the double chapel of the Holy Cross, the anointing house and the burial chapel. The entire complex is a replica of the most important parts of the great Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, the site of the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Georg Emmerich, who later became mayor of Görlitz, was responsible for the design of the complex and laid the foundation stone in 1465 after returning from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The chapels were built between 1481 and 1504.

Guided tours through the historic Old Town with a visit of the Holy Sepulchre are organised by the Görlitz Information. At Görlitz - Public guided tours (goerlitz.de) you will find an overview of dates.
