Enige feiten

The Freital Municipal Collections are among the largest non-governmental museums in the Free State of Saxony. The former manor Burgk houses different collections.

The main building documentsover 450 years of coal mining in the region and facts about the city and regional history. A reconstructed underground situation deals with WISMUT mining until 1989. A technical garden revives mining in the post-war period as an open-air presentation. A visitor mine on early industrial coal mining is located in the castle park.

The second focus is on two top-class collections of Saxon art from the 19th and 20th centuries. The Municipal Art Collection shows works created in the period from about 1890 to 1950. Highlights include nine paintings by Otto Dix. Works by Wilhelm Lachnit, Pol Cassel, Conrad Felixmüller, Otto Lange, Curt Querner, Ewald Schönberg and many others are also represented.

Regular special exhibitions round off the spectrum.

A special highlight is the world's first electric mine locomotive, "Dorothea", which was in service in the region from 1882, on loan from the Siemens Forum in Munich.
