A Tibetan village, Rabbit World, an Upper Lusatian farm, or the Australian Outback—these are just a few of the very special places at the Görlitz Zoo, which covers just 5 ha.
A beautiful 5-hectare park is home to about 500 animals representing 110 species. Red pandas and otters, among others, live in enclosures designed to mimic their natural habitats. The Nature Conservation Zoo considers its most important missions to be fostering deep and emotional connections between people and animals, as well as the conservation of endangered species and nature. Walk-through enclosures offer visitors new perspectives.
An adventure trail and various feeding stations in the “Lausitz Valley” provide up-close encounters with the animals. At the Upper Lusatian Farm, you can brush goats, cuddle with piglets and alpacas, and feed chicks with carrots you’ve grated yourself.
A highlight is the Tibetan village—unique in Germany—with authentically recreated houses and Tibetan animals. The Discovery Barn and themed playgrounds—such as the UNESCO-awarded “Haustierspielplatz”—are not only fun but also encourage children to explore topics like globalization and sustainability through play.
