Ev.-Luth. Church Parish St. Afra Meißen Frauenkirche

Enige feiten

The late Gothic Church of Our Lady, built at the end of the 15th century, is the oldest middle-class church of the city.

The “Frauenkirche Meißen“ is part of the Evangelical-Lutheran church parish St. Afra in Meißen. The late Gothic hall church has been defining the character of the town for 500 years. It is the oldest civic church of Meißen and is not only visited for church services, but also on occasion of numerous cultural events, such as concerts for instance. Furthermore, it is home to quite a number of art treasures, e.g. the world´s first chime of bells made of Meissen porcelain, which plays different chorales day by day. Currently, the municipality is working out a design for the erection of the world´s first church organ with a register made up of Meissener porcelain.
