Welcome to the historic defensive tower!
The complexly remodeled youth hostel is located in the 500-year-old "Gerberbastei," a defensive tower as well as two modernized town houses. It is part of the medieval city fortifications and lies in the historic center of Bautzen, the "City of Towers."

Bautzen is worth a visit not only because of its vibrant Sorbian culture. Once more significant than Dresden, the city gained sad notoriety in recent history primarily due to the "Stasi prison" and political persecution. However, nearly 18 years after reunification, the city presents itself in a completely different light. The old town has been excellently restored, and numerous small shops, cafés, and restaurants invite for strolling and lingering. Additionally, it serves as a starting point for excursions into the Upper Lusatian Highlands, the Zittau Mountains, to the Czech Republic, or into the Upper Lusatian heath and pond landscape with UNESCO biosphere reserve.

Amenities:
The 112 beds are located in single to six-bed rooms, all equipped with wash facilities and partially barrier-free. The leader and family rooms are partially equipped with shower and WC. Guests also have access to a dining room with terrace, as well as five function rooms (2 with 25 seats, 1 with 42 seats, a club room with 12 seats, and a seminar room in the defensive tower with 60 seats). For meetings, seminars, training sessions, or project stays, existing conference technology (TV, video recorder, DVD player, overhead projector, slide projector, and flip chart) can be used. A disco system is also available for use.
