"House of Banksy Leipzig": The new pop-up exhibition in Leipzig
The organizers of the exhibition "The Mystery of Banksy - A Genius Mind", which was on display at Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig in 2022 and attracted around 3 million visitors worldwide, are back in Leipzig! The new pop-up exhibition "House of Banksy Leipzig - An Unauthorized Exhibition" will be open from 30 May 2025 to 25 January 2026. In Grimmaische Straße 10 (former Esprit store), over 150 of the artist's motifs will be on display on an area of 1,500 square meters. This makes the exhibition, which has already been visited by around 300,000 people at its first two venues in Munich and Hamburg, currently the most comprehensive exhibition of the street artist's work in Europe. The exhibition was almost fully booked on the opening day.Graffiti, photographs, sculptures, video installations and prints on various materials such as canvas, fine art paper, wood, aluminum, plaster, concrete and brick were reproduced and compiled especially for this exhibition. In an elaborate setting, visitors are given a comprehensive insight into the artist's entire oeuvre. Around 80 percent of all the graffiti and motifs on display are now hardly or no longer accessible in their original form.
The impressive reproductions, which were sprayed live on site by an internationally renowned team of graffiti artists for the exhibition, allow the viewer to follow in Banksy's footsteps. In Leipzig, you can visit Banksy's most famous street art works in one place and encounter themes such as war, xenophobia, police violence, people on the run and violence against women in a completely different way. On display are works such as "Girl with Balloon", "The Mild Mild West", the first mural signed by Banksy, "Peace Dove" in Bethlehem, a self-portrait by Banksy, and artworks on rubble in the Ukraine, such as "Lady with a Fire Extinguisher".
The exhibition is curated by Virginia Jean. Born in England, she lives in Berlin and works internationally as a curator and gallery owner. After many years of working in the classical art market, she has created numerous projects and exhibitions in the field of street art. Banksy has always been a huge influence and inspiration in her life due to her background and passion for creativity and free art as a means of communication.
