It’s CANALETTO time again!
Germany’s biggest city festival is back, with 18 spaces and eight stages, again at the traditional date on the penultimate weekend of August and again at the traditional venue on both sides of the Elbe. More than 1,000 artists will ensure the best entertainment between Theaterplatz, Kulturpalast and Golden Rider – thanks to the partners and sponsors, free of charge for everyone again this year.
“The Young ClassX”, an ensemble consisting of big band and a choir of children and young people, will kick off on Friday evening from 7. 15 p. m. on Theaterplatz with classical music and songs to sing along in a city festival atmosphere. From 8. 45 p. m. , Tom Gregory, the first chartbreaker of the festival enters Theaterplatz. After that, it’s dancing! Radeberger brings the Berlin pop greats from MIA. 10. 30 p. m. on stage. And with rap, pop and neon colors in mind, the Theaterplatz starts the new day at midnight, because MC Fitti enters the stage at midnight.
Late Saturday night is full of fat beats. 10. 15 p. m. the DJ duo “DIA – Plattenpussys” heats up the historic pavement before handing over the turntables to the great master: Eskei83. But Saturday night can also be quieter, if not less haunting: German pop newcomer LUNA will be pushing for self-determination with her hit single “Blau” from 7 p. m. Afterwards, a touch of nostalgia blows through the air of CANALETTO: The eastern rock band Silly, presented by Radeberger and Freiberger, will take over the microphones from 8. 30 p. m. With the distinctive voice of singer AnnaR, former frontwoman at Rosenstolz, goose bumps are guaranteed with old and new Silly hits.
There is also goose bumps on Sunday evening on the Theaterplatz with the heart-wrenching ballads by Joel Brandenstein. The Firebirds presented by Freiberger set off a lively counterpoint at 8:45 p. m. The five rock ’n' rollers from Leipzig bring the temperament and sound of the 1950s and 1960s to the Saxon capital, including charming comedy interludes and a-capella passages.
As the festival draws to a close on Sunday evening, CANALETTO traditionally adds one more thing: from 10 p. m. onwards, the high-altitude fireworks plunges the entire festival area back into the most dazzling colours.
