123rd German Hiking Day

Enige feiten

Hiking without borders

The 123rd German Hiking Day will take place in Oberwiesenthal from September 24 to 27, 2026 under the motto "Moving together through the Ore Mountains". For the first time, the traditional major event will be closely linked to the international EURORANDO, which will bring hikers from all over Europe to the German and Czech Ore Mountains from September 20.

The UNESCO World Heritage region of the Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Landscape will provide the backdrop - a landscape that is perfect for encounters across borders. Germany's largest hiking event with over 20,000 expected guests is thus returning to the Ore Mountains after the successful edition in Schwarzenberg in 2003.

The German Hiking Day has been the highlight of the German and European hiking scene for over 140 years. It attracts tens of thousands of people into nature and combines active hiking with culture and exchange. From family-friendly routes to challenging mountain tours: the program includes a large selection of guided hikes at various levels of difficulty, exciting themed hikes on nature, history and mining, as well as concerts, regional markets and specialist events. There is also a strong sense of community: clubs from all over Germany present themselves at the big parade, which traditionally forms the highlight with colorful traditional costumes, music and flags.

With the simultaneous EURORANDO, the 2026 Hiking Day will open up even further to Europe: guided tours on both sides of the border, meeting projects, workshops and cultural events will bring together hiking enthusiasts from many countries. For a few days, Oberwiesenthal will become a lively meeting place for everyone who appreciates nature, exercise and togetherness.
