The 47th Dresden Music Festival opens new "HORIZONTE" from 9 May to 9 June 2024

Daring to try something new, leaving the beaten track: The Dresdner Musikfestspiele are embarking on a visionary year of discoveries under the motto "HORIZONTE". Director Jan Vogler invites you to the 47th Festival season from 9 May to 9 June 2024. June 2024 invites you to broaden your horizons and presents a programme of 60 events that brings the diversity of the music world to life at 21 venues in and around Dresden.

Rock icon Sting will play his greatest hits with his band at the Dresden Messe. And Laufey, a newcomer who is making sensitive jazz music socially acceptable again with young audiences, will be making her Dresden debut. A new format is "The Night of the Young Stars", in which prominent patrons such as Till Brönner, Sarah Willis and Martin Grubinger invite the next generation of musicians onto the stage. The opening concert with the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest & Klaus Mäkelä and the closing concert with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra & Jakub Hrůša provide the high-calibre classical framework for 32 lively festival days.

With 25 debuts and a total of four world premieres, the Dresden Music Festival 2024 is once again proving to be a festival with enormous innovative appeal. The continuation of the project "The Wagner Cycles", which was launched this year with Richard Wagner's "Das Rheingold" , also bears witness to this. The second part of this large-scale artistic-scientific dialogue will now feature a concert performance of "Die Walküre" in the historical sound of the Wagner era with the Dresdner Festspielorchester and Concerto Köln under the direction of Kent Nagano.

The Dresden electro-pop duo Ätna will perform a programme with the Dresdner Kapellsolisten for the first time at the music festival. With Daniel Hope (violin) and Jan Vogler (cello), two first-class soloists and artistic directors from Dresden will also perform with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under the direction of Anna Rakitina in the Frauenkirche. The musical horizon will also be broadened in the coming year by internationally acclaimed musicians and orchestras such as the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Manfred Honeck with Daniel Lozakovich (violin), Elena Urioste & Chineke! Orchestra, Philippe Herreweghe and the Collegium Vocale Gent as well as Abel Selaocoe & Bantu Ensemble, Stacey Kent (jazz vocals) Igor Levit (piano), Jane Monheit (jazz vocals), Jeanine De Bique (soprano) and Anoushka Shankar (sitar).
